[In the left margin] Thomas Brocks Will I THOMAS BROCK of the County of Southampton being of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this writing for my last will and testament ~ Item: I Give and devise unto my wife Lucy Brock one negro man by the name of Sawny one mare call'd Phoenix one cow and calf one sow and pigs one bed and furniture (her choice) one black Walnut table one side Saddle and bridle one loom and furniture two Trunks one pewter dish and three plates one small case and bottles twenty barrels of corn eight hundred weight of pork one flax wheel and hackle all the wool and Flax with as much Cotton as will be sufficient to cloth the family to his and her heirs forever ~ I also lend to my said Wife the use and labour of a slave called Dick during her widowhood and afterwards that he shall be sold and equally divided between my said wife and three of my children (to wit) John Thomas Ellis and Polly McKenny Brock to them and their heirs forever ~ I also desire that my Executors should save fifty pounds out of my estate to purchase a piece of land for the use of my said wife during her widowhood and at her death or marriage ~ I Give the said piece of land to said son Thomas Ellis Brock to them and their heirs forever I Give and devise unto Belah Willifords four children (to wit) Josiah Samuel Susanna and William or as any of them as many of them as should arrive to the age of twenty one years one Negro Boy of Exum also one negro woman now in the possession of the said Belah Williford by the name of Bass to be equally divided between the said children them & their heirs forever ~ I Give and devise unto my son William Brock one Negro Girl Betsy now in his possession five pounds cash to him and his heirs forever ~ I Give and devise unto my son Benjamin Brock one Negro Girl Rachal now in his possession to him and his heirs forever ~ I Give and devise unto my son John Brock one Negro Girl by the name of Silva one bed and furniture one Cow and Calf one Sow and pigs to him and his heirs forever ~ I Give and devise unto my son Thomas Ellis Brock one Negro Boy named Aron one cyder Still one bed and furniture one cow and calf one dish and three plates to him & his heirs forever. I Give and devise unto my daughter Polly McKenny Brock one Negro Girl by the name of Nancy one bed and furniture one cow and calf one dish and three plates to her and her heirs forever ~ I desire that one negro woman named Sukey should be sold (and all her increase from the date hereof) and the money arising; shall be equally divided between my two children (to wit) Thomas Ellis and Polly McKenney Brock to them and to their heirs forever ~ I Give and devise unto my grand daughter Susanna Willeford four pounds cash to her and her heirs forever ~ All the residue and remainder of my estate of what nature and kind soever after my just debts are paid I desire it should be equally divided between my wife and three children (to wit) John Thomas Ellis and Polly McKenny Brock to them and their heirs forever ~~~ I constitute & appoint Edward Bailey Solomon Holmes and my son William Brock my Executors of this my Last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 8th day of February 1795. And at a Court held for the County of Southampton the 15th day of January 1798 This Will was further proved by the oath of James Butts another witness and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of William Brock one of the Executors named in the Will (the others refusing to take upon themselves the burthen of the execution thereof) who made oath according to law Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat thereof in due form giving security whereupon Samuel Kello Cl.
